People visit from all over creation, bringing their enthusiasm for outdoor recreation in pristine forests and on our awesome rivers... along with their tourist dollars.
When we allow gas companies to destroy our forests and water, we are destroying our children's legacy; and a clean, healthy environment; and that gold mine known as eco-tourism.
The damage being done by gas companies is Pennsylvania's equivalent of Agent Orange. Toxic chemicals injected into our groundwater and spewed into the air we breathe; forests shaved and paved wholesale; noxious gases released day and night; the roaring of explosive gas flares 24 hours a day; water virtually robbed from our great rivers: Susquehanna, Juniata, Monongahela and more. Nothing can repay the destruction nor undo the damage. Our good health is being sold for wildcatters' binge drinking habits; our rivers and healthy forests pissed away.
We need alternative energy sources and an end to carbon poison. Write to Governor Tom Corbett and demand clean alternatives and an end to the destruction: 255 Main Capitol Building, Harrisburg, PA 17120. Sign a petition here to tell the governor not to allow drilling near Worlds End State Park in the Loyalsock State Forest.
Support the Pennsylvania Environmental Defense Foundation's lawsuit against the Commonwealth and the Corbett administration. According to the Loyalsock Creek Watershed Association, the goals of the lawsuit are:
1). Stop further leasing of State Forest land for oil and gas extraction.
2). Require a thorough impact analysis of the current and future development of State Forest and State Parks
land for gas and oil extraction.
3). Require the return of the $400,000,000.00 to Department of Natural Resources (DCNR) taken from
leasing State Forest land for gas extraction. (Note: Monies from the Oil and Gas Lease Fund, an important
source of funding for the DCNR, were diverted to the General Fund to cover budget deficits. DCNR is
divided into the Bureau of Forestry and the Bureau of State Parks. The Oil and Gas Lease Fund was created
to pay for conservation and protection of your state forests and parks.)
4). Establish a de facto trust fund out of the Oil and Gas Fund that will insure protection, restoration and
mitigation of our natural resources.
5). Put DCNR back in charge of the Oil and Gas Lease Fund and in charge of protecting, restoring and
mitigating our natural resources.
Shale gas is a filthy, finite sham: short-term gain for incalculable long-term loss. Pennsylvania needs sustainable income in the form of eco-tourism dollars. Clean, healthy energy alternatives are a big part of that.
