It's good to be back on the bus. But sometimes I wish our grown-up buses were treated with as much respect as school buses.
When a school bus stops, the world stops. Lights flash, a protective barrier swings out, traffic halts.
Now school buses are even topped with a flashing disco strobe light. Like what part of a big yellow bus is hard to see?
In contrast, our public transportation buses are too often treated as video game avatars, objects to be overcome. Once during my previous Bus Challenge, I had just gotten off the bus when a tractor-trailer roared by, crossing the double yellow to pass us at full tilt. Holy roadkill! But thank goodness most drivers are courteous and aware.
The buses are a blessing for many people, and are very well run, clean and comfortable. I'm thankful to be able to ride them, and give my car a brake.
