For one month the car sat while I took the bus, biked or walked everywhere. That's always been the goal, readily achieved in past bus challenges. However, this month a few lapses occurred. The sweet June days drove me to Swatara State Park (twice) and to walk at the Marietta boat launch (once). Plus the car had to be inspected. But overall it was satisfying to live (nearly) car-free for one month.
It's no walk in the park. Grueling, at times. Road construction caused one-hour afternoon waits for the bus along a busy, diesel- and dust-choked highway. Too many close encounters with drivers who were looking not at the road (or people walking along it!) but at their phones. On a slight curve at my bus stop about one out of ten drivers drifted outside the traffic lane. Again, many of them had one hand on a phone. Sometimes both hands.
Why people like that would gawk at someone doing squat-thrusts by the roadside is beyond me.
