When as drivers we strap on our metal carapace do we also turn off our common sense? This ped stands and watches in wonder while people charge toward a red light at full speed. This ped has leaped out of the path of a youth in a speeding truck at Lemon & Queen. This ped once nailed an SUV with a banana after he ran a red light at Prince & James and nearly hit her as she walked in the crosswalk, with the walk light. Hearing the thud slowed him down a bit, but not for long. Waste of a good banana.
Many people care about conserving fuel by slowing down and by pacing one's travel with the traffic lights. Many people care about conserving fuel for future generations by walking, bicycling or taking public transportation.
Too many people drive like they're fleeing from some terrifying beast. Unfortunately the beast is us, tripping on adrenaline, heads clouded with petrochemical fumes, allowing ourselves to remain inflamed because we've forgotten what a healthy world looks like. The world that nourished our ancestors was not viewed by them through the safety glass windows of a metal cages on wheels. And don't be fooled -- motorcycles are not much different, offering just the illusion of freedom but with even more noise and stench.
Set that wild human self free. Stand up and walk out of that cage. You'll be amazed at how good real freedom feels.
